The film follows Teresa (Brbara Kolen), who returns to Bakurau, a village in the heart of semi-arid Brazil, to attend her grandmother’s funeral. Upon arrival, Teresa immediately saw signs that Bakurau was in a predicament. Basic facilities are lacking, cellphone coverage is weak, clean water supplies are stagnant, and trucks equipped with drinking water are full of bullet holes. It soon became clear that the corrupt government had completely abandoned the village: not only were Bakurau literally wiped off the map, but its citizens were also attacked. As a responsible bar, the villagers had to prepare organized resistance to avoid major damage.
